Every parent wants their children to be educated, but families living in extreme poverty (making under $1.90/day according to the WHO) must make a daily choice between buying food, paying rent or paying school fees. And with the average family size of 5 children, even if 1 or 2 attend school, they cannot send all of them.
At Hope Empowers Academy, our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by providing quality, affordable education. But for children in extreme poverty, even our ultra low-cost fees are out of reach.
That’s where you come in.
It's impossible to provide quality education to the extreme poor and fund it through school fees paid by families. Here are actual financial results from TERM 1 2025:
Nursery School
73 students x $21 = $1,533
Paid by families: $521
Shortfall: $1,012
Primary School
72 students x $30 = $2,160
Paid by families: $872
Shortfall: $1,288
👉 Total Term Shortfall: $2,300
Most schools send kids home if fees aren’t paid. We refuse to turn children away simply because they’re poor — but we can’t do it alone.
Hope Empowers Academy desperately wants to serve these children. So, what is the solution?
For just $15/month, you can help cover these shortfalls and keep a child in school. There are no government programs or loans — only people like you standing in the gap.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves… defend the rights of the poor and needy.” — Proverbs 31:8-9
Uganda introduced Universal Primary Education in 1997 — but school is far from free. Here's a sample of costs:
Registration Fee: ~$140
Term Fees: $440–$520/year
Uniforms and supplies: additional costs
Most families in extreme poverty can't afford even these schools. Dropout rates are high, and less than 25% go on to secondary education. Overcrowded classrooms and under-resourced schools leave children without the tools to succeed.
